Floyd entered military service on 18Nov1942. It is unknown where he attended basic training or when he was assigned to the 405th Infantry Regiment.
The 405th Infantry Regiment landed at Cherbourg, France on 12Sep1944. The unit saw its first combat on 29Nov1944 when it attached the German Siegfried Line. By 4Dec1944 they had reached the banks of the Roer River in Germany. For the next 2 weeks they conducted patrols along the river while holding their defensive line.
They maintained this position when the Battle of the Bulge started to prevent a German breakthrough. On 23Dec1944 while near the town of Linnach, Germany that Floyd was killed in action. The circumstances of his death or unknown.
Floyd was initially reported as missing in action, but his status was quickly changed to killed in action.


Floyd was buried in a temporary military cemetery. In 1948 his remains were returned to the United States for reburial.

Floyd is buried at Sunset Memorial Park in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
