Unit: Geroge was a Corpsman attached to the 1st Marine Division.

George’s path to the Navy is unknown.

In March 1968 he was wounded in action in Vietnam while serving as a Navy Corpsman attached to Marine Corps unit with the 1st Marine Division. Navy Corpsman was a dangerous job during the Vietnam war. 645 Corpsman were killed in action, and over 3,300 were wounded in action. Due to the severity of his wounds, George was sent to the Great Lakes Naval Station in Chicago, Illinois to recuperate.

On 21Aug1968, George was a passenger in a car that was involved in a single vehicle accident. He spent 7 days in a coma before surcoming to his injuries on 28Aug1968.

George’s body was returned to Minnesota for burial at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.
