James graduated with the Class of January 1943. He participated in wrestling.

Military Service

Rank: Private First Class

No records have been found of James’ path to the army or the early part of his service. He was assigned to the Adjutant General’s Department.

The roll of the branch was to personnel service support by manning the force, providing human resources services, coordinating personnel support, Army band operations, and recruiting and retention. Over 15,000 people were in the department during World War 2.

James died of burns when a gasoline stove exploded. He was serving in India at the time.

James was originally buried in India. In 1948 his remains were returned to the United States for reburial.

James is buried at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.
