Joe graduated with the Class of June 1948.

Unit: Company C – 1st Battalion – 7th Marines – 1st Marine Division

Joe enlisted in the Marine Corps in November 1947.

On 15Sep1950, the 1st Marine Division made a successful amphibious landing at Inchon, Korea to recapture Seoul. On 22Sep1950 they became involved in a heavy engagement with the North Korean army on the West side of Seoul.

Joe was killed in action on the 9th day of the battle. He was 1 of 4 men from Company to be killed that day.

On 11Nov1950 Joe was 1 of 118 Minnesotan’s killed in Korea to be honored at that years Armistice Day ceremony.

Joseph’s remains were returned to Minnesota in November 1951 for reburial.

Joseph is buried at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.
