LeRoy graduated with the Class of January 1928. He was an accomplished musician.


After high school, Leroy’s name appeared frequently in the local papers for his musical performances.


Leroy’s given name was Paul Leroy. It appears that he used Leroy into his twenties, and then switched to Paul.
Military Service

Unit: Headquarters Company – 14th Port of Embarkation
Paul enlisted in the Army on 12Apr1942. It is unknown where he attended basic training, or how he ended up at the 14th Port of Embarkation.
The 14th Port of Embarkation was located at Southampton, England. It was a key US Army-operated facility in the European Theater. The unit was activated in the US in early 1943, moved overseas, and was formally established at Southampton by 1Feb1944.
In May 1944, Paul was stricken with Encephalomyelitis. Encephalomyelitis is an inflammation of the brain and spinal cord. The condition required him to undergo a tracheotomy and eventually led to him being medically discharged on29Aug1944.
Although no definitive records have been found, it appears that he returned to Minnesota and was hospitalized at the Veteran’s hospital. Paul died on 23Apr1945.

Paul’s funeral was held on 27Apr1945.

He is buried at Hillside Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
