Lester attended Edison through the 11th grade before withdrawing to enlist in the Army.

Military Service

Unit: D Troop – 7th Squadron – 1st Cavalry Division – 1st Aviation Brigade

Lester enlisted in the Army in the latter half of 1969. According to his family, he had a desire to serve. After basic training, Lester was sent to Vietnam. He arrived in country in 9Feb1970.

On 11Mar1970 Lester and D Troop were escorting a 38-vehicle convoy from the 120th Transportation Company – 91st Combat Support Brigade traveling on Highway LTL-8A from Bihn Thuy to Ha Tien.

The convoy hit 2 command detonated mines. Lester and 3 other men from the 1st Cavalry were killed by the explosion.

Lester’s family was original told that he was missing in action. The next day they were informed of his death..

Lester’s body was returned home for burial at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Lester’s name is inscribed on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC on Panel 13W, Line 114.
