Phil graduated with the Class of January 1943. In school he participated in the Ushers Club, and Hi-Y. He also received a Scholarship Pin for academic achievement. He attended the University of Minnesota prior to entering the service.

Military Service

Rank: Private First Class

Branch: United States Army

Unit: Company F – 101st Infantry Regiment – 26th Infantry Division.

Phil, with 26th Infantry Division landed in France on 7Sep1944 and saw their first combat on 7Oct1944. In November the 101st Regiment was fighting in the Lorraine region of France near the German border. Phil was killed in action near Inswiller, France. The circumstances of his death are unknown.

In 1948 Phil’s remains were returned to Minnesota, and he was reburied at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetary in Minneapolis.
