The only record linking Richard to Edison was in a 1949 Edison Record newspaper article listing the names of the Edison alumni killed during World War 2.

Richard entered service on 8Sep1943. It is unknown where he attended basic training or when he joined his unit.
The 455th landed in France after D-day in July 1944. The participated in the Battle of the Bulge and they helped defend the Ludendorff Bridge at Remagen in March 1945.
After Germany surrendered, Richard remained in Germany as part of the Allied Occupation Force. On 7Oct1945 Richard died in a car accident.
Richard was originally buried in a military cemetery in Holland. In October 1948 his remains were returned to Minnesota for reburial.
Richard is buried at Hillside Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
