Warren graduated with the Class of June 1942. He was a 2-time letter winner in Basketball, and he earned city wide recognition for his ability on the court.





Military Service

Branch: United States Navy
Unit: Torpedo Squadron 20
Warren enlisted in the Navy on 13Jan1943. After basic training, he went to advanced training at Naval Air Station Jacksonville, FL.

After advanced training William was assigned to Torpedo Squadron 20 which was stood up 11Oct1943. Based out of Naval Air Station San Diego, the squadron commenced with training prior to going overseas.
On 27Jan1944, Warren, the gunner on a TBF-1 torpedo bomber, was engaged in an operational night flying training mission of the coast of San Diego, CA. The plane crashed into the Pacific Ocean.

Robert’s body was recovered several days after the crash.

Warren’s remains were returned to Minnesota, and he is buried at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.
